YOU GOT IT! TIPS FOR AN EFFECTIVE INTERVIEW
- Be prepared for the interview by researching the company and bringing several copies of your resume.
- Always plan to arrive 10 - 15 minutes early for the interview, but not any earlier.
- Professional dress is necessary, even for companies where casual or business casual attire is the everyday dress code.
- Do not be afraid to ask questions! Limit your questions, however, to points such as job duties, expectations of the supervisor and the profile of a successful employee.
- Emphasize achievements in your background which could identify you as the candidate who could best perform the job being offered.
- Have a positive attitude about the interview. Speak with conviction and be enthusiastic.
- The little things in an interview count. Remember the interviewers name. Maintain good eye contact. Offer a firm hand shake.
- Always be honest in an interview, but never say anything negative about your former employer.
- Make the interviewer believe that you can do the job and that you are interested.
- Verbally thank the interviewer for their time. Send a short thank you note or e-mail to each individual seen.
- Ask for an evaluation of your interview. If you want the job, don't be afraid to say so.
